#FreeThe20 didn’t disappear after it was addressed in September of 2015. It’s 2016 and there are still women who need to be freed from wrongful imprisonment. I have a special interest in women political prisoners and Wang Yu, A Chinese Rights Lawyer Who Faces Life In Prison by Pursuing Justice, who is featured in Hooligan Sparrow, a documentary following an activist (Ye Haiyan under the name Hooligan Sparrow) who protests the case of six elementary school girls who were sexually abused by their principal.

HooliganSparrow2Before I get into Hooligan Sparrow and Wang Yu I’ll be addressing the state of the world: politically; emotionally and socially. I’m addressing the continuously tragic current events happening around the world and how these events should not only be responded to with condolences, but with ACTION. Something needs to happen and it needs to happen NOW!

As we see the bandaids applied by our public officials and those in power peeling away from the heat of the truth, worn dirt-colored gummy remnants are all that remain of the illusions that were pasted to each crusty word that was spoken. We are left, hands open and empty with promises that “something will be done that directly ensures this will never happen again.” And yet here we are experiencing a string of horrendous events that continue to take place. These are idle promises that do not take the situation head on, instead they are press conferences curated to ease the minds of the people while accomplishing nothing. Take Obama’s “support of both protestor’s and police in question about shootings.”

The go-to seems to be the use of distraction as a form of appeasement for the public so as to calm any infuriated parties. As seen above, a major ongoing issue is gun violence in communities and specifically police gun violence aimed towards black people. The only reason innocent individuals are being harmed and killed is the color of their skin combined with police officers on deranged power trips. Let’s take a look why this innocent autistic man’s caregiver got shot trying to calm his patient down.

Now let’s look into the Nice Truck Driver Attack in France. This is another example of not looking the problem “In-the-eye,” so to speak. Instead of being direct, distraction tactics are once again employed. The French Leader Calls Attacks an ‘Act of War’ and says ISIS is to Blame.

Let’s tiptoe around the fact that ISIS (cue Obama’s Response to the Nice Attack) should have been addressed and how we need to nip that in the bud. Like Obama, Let’s instead promote and emphasize the concept of tolerance because it will make such a difference.

Moral of the story: Action needs to be made to prevent further attacks and to protect lives.

Take A Peak: Where this generation’s Focus & Attention is directed towards…

We live in a world where millions of desensitized, distracted and uninformed individuals are more concerned with a Pokemon app than the virtue and value of fellow human life. As I sat in my room, alone, reflecting on the somber and disgusted emotions I felt upon hearing the news of the Truck Attack in Nice, all I could hear were a group of 20-something year old men talking about what they caught in their pokeballs. All I could hear were names of charizard and blastoise. They weren’t the least concerned with the major atrocities that have been occurring across the globe (such as the Orlando Shooting), which have spanned amongst nations. They were not reflecting on the loss of human life or how those losses impacted families. How the acts of terrorism themselves affected the political stance of governments or the now evident global safety concerns. They weren’t aware of any aspect of life that expanded beyond the small apartment room they resided in at that moment.

Flabbergasted, I thought most people would be in utter shock as I was, almost physically debilitated from experiencing the range of emotions flurrying within my Being. Unable to interact with anyone or anything outside the covers I had cocooned myself in, in my bed. Or that they would be enraged and fired up, so lividly, they would demand the world change right then and there.

These were people. People who had lives and families and homes. People who had Life coursing through their veins. Life that once pounded awake with DREAMS every morning. Life that understood pain and sorrow as a part of the human condition. LIFE THAT LOOKED FORWARD TOWARDS HOPE. Life that felt and loved and hurt.

Take A Glimpse In: What this generation values…

We live in a world where A 15 year old boy named Zaevion Dobson, plagued in a town of violence, battered with bullets (to shield his friends and brother), is the equivalent courageous act as A famous olympic athlete who discovered herself as being transgendered. We consider it to being the equivalent of experiencing the rest of your life as a double-amputee such as Iraq War Veteran Noah Gallaway. A transgendered woman that was able afford the top-quality procedures, heels and accessories that came along with her discovery was put in the same category as Zaevion Dobson and Noah Gallaway. We consider that journey to be the same, in courage, as being murdered as a 15 year old boy or living as a double-amputee veteran. I think it’s fabulous that Caitlyn Jenner was able to bring light to the world of being transgendered, but I would not compare her to Zaevion Dobson or Noah Gallaway.

The Arthur Ashe Courage Award was created to be presented annually to individuals whose contributions “transcend sports.” In honor of this man:

There are people who are putting their lives on the line in the name of: Freedom, Truth & Justice. Their energy and focus is directed towards causes that affect human beings personally, nationally and on a global level. They deserve our energy and focus to go towards freeing and helping them. We need a national and global shift in the Collective Consciousness to accomplish these actions!

HOW YOU CAN HELP NOWURGENT ACTION / Hooligan Sparrow

We need to refocus on WHAT’S IMPORTANT and WHAT MATTERS.

We live in a world where injustices need to be faced head on by acknowledging problems and taking action that will put beneficial change into effect. By acknowledging these problems as problems we can change problems into solutions. By recognizing the realities of situations, longstanding and successful practices can take the place of the current unjust procedures that were thrown together as temporary solutions. Successful practices put in place that will benefit the populace and will endure.

These problems are happening and they’re happening NOW and they DO affect you. We need to:
